4-star RB JâMarion Burnette de-commits from Auburn day after post stating his recruitment was open
After a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wednesday affirming his commitment to Auburn but stating opening up his options, four-star running back J’Marion Burnette announced his de-commitment from Auburn on Thursday.
It marks another step in an odd 24-hour period on the social media platform. On Wednesday morning, Burnette tweeted: “My recruitment is 100% open still committed to auburn just open to options!”
Hardly a day later, news of his de-commitment broke.
Burnette, who plays for Andalusia High School in Andalusia, Alabama, is the third Auburn de-commitment in the last month. Four-star athlete Jalewis Solomon de-committed in early October and quickly flipped to South Carolina. Seven days after Solomon, four-star cornerback Jayden Lewis backed off his Auburn pledge.
Burnette is ranked as one of the top 300 overall players in America, a top 20 running back and a top 20 player in Alabama.
Auburn’s running back room going forward appears largely set with players already on the roster. All four of Auburn’s top ball carriers — Jarquez Hunter, Damari Alston, Brian Battie and Jeremiah Cobb — can return next season. Cobb, just a freshman, has received high praise throughout this season as Auburn’s running back for the future.
Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class is now back down to 16 commits. It is still ranked as the 17th overall class in the nation but is now ranked 11th in terms of average recruit ranking according to 247Sports. Auburn, for much of the 2023 football season, has been among the top five or six teams in that category.
